Recycle Your Used Golf Balls THIS Weekend
Think back to the last round of golf you played and try to recall the number of golf balls you lost. Be it one or one dozen, you probably didn’t play the same ball the entire 18 holes.
Considering that close to 500 million rounds of golf are played each year, it’s no wonder more than two billion golf balls are manufactured each year to keep golfers’ bags stocked full.
To give you an idea of just how many golf balls two billion is, picture this: if all the balls were lined up dimple to dimple, they would circle the earth’s equator…twice!
Whew! Talk about a lot of golf balls.
So what happens to the balls that we shank in the water, forfeit to looming reptiles or those that get caught in the billowing palm trees that line many of the most beautiful coastal courses we know?
Hopefully, they get recycled. At least that’s what Tempe-based golf company Dixon Golf wants to see happen.
And in order to help make that simple for you to do, Dixon Golf is holding recycling events at both Valley PGA Tour Superstore locations THIS WEEKEND. The first event will be held at the Scottsdale location and the second is to be held at their Chandler store.
Saturday, July 24 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Loop 101 and Shea Blvd; Scottsdale
Sunday, July 25 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Arizona Rd; Chandler
Dixon Golf will be accepting golf balls from all brands (aside from range balls, please).
Everyone who brings in golf balls to recycle will receive a gift certificate totaling $12 as well as merchandise giveaways. One lucky participant from each store will win a $250 PGA Tour Superstore gift card.
Dixon’s take on recycling used golf balls is simple. More than 300 million balls are lost or disposed of each year, most of which are made of harmful heavy metals, such as tungsten, lead, cobalt and zinc.
Dixon balls are not made of heavy metals, rather, they are created using recyclable proprietary polymer and thus, are less harmful to the environment.
The Dixon Golf balls collected this weekend will be recycled into a reusable material, utilized in the manufacturing of playground equipment and field turf. All other brands of golf balls will be used to research their recyclability and possible application after being turned into reusable form. PGA Tour Superstores and other retailers will regularly have small, countertop receptacles for collecting used golf balls.
Please come out THIS WEEKEND and bring your old golf balls in to get recycled. Dixon Golf and the environment sure would appreciate it!
