Misconception About Getting a Custom Club Fitting
While there are certainly some adages in golf that cannot be argued (“Never up, never in,” for example), there are plenty of misconceptions surrounding the game.
And when it comes to golf club fitting, some assume it is a luxury reserved only for golfers who have perfected the fine art of the game. What most people don’t realize is that the mid-to-high handicap players are the ones who will benefit the most from getting custom fit for clubs.
Players assume that they have to have a finely-tuned swing before they can consider getting fit for golf clubs. Higher handicap golfers believe that their swing is not consistent enough to be able to gain benefit from a custom club fitting. This is not the case at all.
The truth is that the clubs in golfers’ bags are manufactured standard and for mass use and distribution. Stock, off-the-shelf clubs actually inhibit golfers from becoming more consistent.
A truism you can hang your hat on: The less skilled the golfer, the more they need to get custom fit in order to play to the best of their ability.
Low handicappers achieve better playing ability because they have trained their body kinetics to make a consistently similar swing that they learned from proper swing fundamentals.
But for those of us who can’t practice hours on end and play 18 holes a day, it’s tough for us to elevate our games. It’s difficult for us to feel we have any control over where the ball goes or how low of scores we can shoot.
But the one thing we can control is having the best possible tools in our bag to help play the best possible golf we can.
If a middle to high handicapper plays woods that are too long, club face angles that are not matched to their swing path, a swingweight that varies from their swing tempo or other parameters that don’t compliment their individual swing, golfers will actually experience more frustrations.
Do yourself a favor and come in to Cool Clubs for a custom club fit despite your playing ability. The sticks in your bag is the one part of your game you can have control over, so make sure you’ve got the best clubs in the bag that can help you “Play Better Golf!”
